Bangladesh will not require any cattle imports for this year’s Eid-ul-Azha, confirmed Fisheries and Livestock Advisor Farida Akhter. Speaking at a press briefing on Sunday, May 4, at the Secretariat, she stated that the country has sufficient livestock ready to meet the demand for sacrificial animals.

According to Akhter, a total of 12,447,000 cattle, goats, and other animals are prepared nationwide for the Qurbani season, ensuring there will be no shortage during the festival. She emphasized that the local farms’ supply is enough to meet the national need without relying on foreign imports.

The advisor also warned against the illegal entry of animals through smuggling, particularly from neighboring countries and Myanmar. She assured that law enforcement agencies have been strictly instructed to prevent such activities and maintain control over the borders.

Additionally, Akhter highlighted that police will take firm action against any hijackers targeting trucks carrying cattle. She issued a stern warning that transporting animals, especially goats, inside the luggage sections of passenger buses is illegal and violates transportation laws.

With strong enforcement measures and robust domestic supply, the government aims to ensure a smooth and lawful Qurbani season for all citizens.
