BTRC to Urge Meta, Other Platforms to Block Awami League’s Online Presence
The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) will soon send formal requests to Meta and other digital platforms to block all online activities of the Awami League, including its official Facebook page. The move follows a decision by the Advisory Council to ban all activities of the party under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, stated that the directive will be sent as soon as the official circular is issued. The Awami League’s Facebook page, which has close to four million followers, has continued posting content, including protest statements, despite the announced ban.
