Salah Galal was a renowned Egyptian poet and lyricist whose life, though brief, left an enduring mark on spiritual music. He passed away at the age of 39 on November 21, 2012, after a long battle with cancer.
Throughout his illness, Salah Galal remained immersed in profound love for the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). From his bed of suffering, he composed spiritual songs filled with devotion, sincerity, and longing. These final works carried the rhythm, melody, and essence of his deep attachment to the Prophet Mustafa—the Chosen One of Allah—and became a timeless part of his loving legacy.
Though his life was cut short, Salah Galal’s words and melodies continue to resonate, keeping his spirit alive in the hearts of those who cherish his art. Salah Galal’s most celebrated work is the Arabic version of the spiritual anthem “Ya Nabi Salam Alaika”, which has surpassed 630 million views, making it one of the most-watched Islamic spiritual songs in the world. Its popularity spans Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Europe, cementing the song as a global classic. It was released by the London-based label Awakening Records, who later also published a Turkish version (35 million views) and an international version (49 million views).
Among Salah’s other beloved works are “Raditu Billahi” and “Mawla Ya”, which have reached 138 million and 204 million views respectively. All of these songs were performed by renowned Swedish artist Maher Zain, who continues to hold Salah’s memory close to us.
Awakening Records also honors him deeply. On their verified Facebook page, they wrote: “We can never forget the mastermind behind our song ‘Ya Nabi Salam Alaika,’ the talented lyricist of the Arabic version. Please recite Surah Fatiha for him and keep him in your prayers.”
Salah Galal maintained warm and friendly ties with many members of Awakening Records. The label itself is home to numerous world-famous artists, including Atif Aslam (Pakistan), Sami Yusuf (UK), Harris J (England), Raef (USA), Mustafa Ceceli (Turkey), Sinan Akçıl (Turkey), Humood AlKhudr (Kuwait), Hamza Namira (Egypt), Salim–Sulaiman (India), and Mesut Kurtis (North Macedonia), all of whom have released solo or collaborative works under its banner.
“Hubb Ennabi” (Loving the Prophet)
Another of Salah’s spiritual pieces, “Hubb Ennabi,” written before his passing, was released nearly a decade later on October 15, 2021. Filled with devotion to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the song was composed by Mohamed Al Sayee from Egypt and performed by Maher Zain.
Music Star Maher reflected on the song’s significance, saying: “Hubb Ennabi is a little more special because it is being released after a decade. The song is about creating more love for the Prophet (PBUH)—what he taught us.”
“When my friend Salah played me the demo, I immediately fell in love with the song. After Salah passed away, I kept it safe. We released ‘Ya Nabi Salam Alaika’ in 2021 to mark the tenth anniversary of the song’s creation. Now is the right time to honor Salah and showcase his work to the world.”, said Bara Khiregi, Managing Director of Awakening Records.
