Pakistan Successfully Test-Fires 120km-Range Fatah Missile Amid Regional Tensions
ISLAMABAD, May 5, 2025 – Pakistan on Monday conducted a successful training launch of its Fatah Series surface-to-surface missile, with a range of 120 kilometers, as part of the ongoing “Ex Indus” military exercise, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced.
The test comes at a time of heightened tensions between Pakistan and India, following New Delhi’s aggressive posturing in response to a deadly attack in occupied Kashmir.
According to the ISPR, the launch aimed to ensure operational readiness and validate key technical features, including the missile’s advanced navigation system and precision targeting capabilities.
Senior army officers, scientists, and engineers from Pakistan’s strategic organizations witnessed the test. General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, and Army Chief General Asim Munir congratulated the troops, scientists, and engineers involved, expressing full confidence in the Pakistan Army’s preparedness to defend the country’s territorial integrity.
President Asif Ali Zardari also extended his congratulations to the team and the nation, appreciating the efforts of the security forces, scientists, and engineers in strengthening national defense. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the professionalism of the Pakistan Army, stating that the successful test reflects the country’s robust defense capabilities.
Just days earlier, Pakistan had successfully tested the Abdali Weapon System, a surface-to-surface missile with a range of 450 kilometers. In May last year, the army launched the Fatah-II guided rocket system, which has a 400-kilometer range and advanced terminal guidance technology.
The recent escalation follows the April 22 attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people, mostly tourists. India alleged cross-border involvement, a claim Pakistan has strongly denied, calling for an impartial investigation.
Pakistan’s military remains on high alert, with assurances that any aggression will be met with a decisive response. Meanwhile, India has announced civil defense drills across several states, preparing for potential conflict scenarios.
