Dhaka-born visual artist earns global recognition in London for documentary series on urban transformation in Green Model Town
Bangladeshi photographer Jubair Ahmed Arnob has been awarded the Student Photographer of the Year title at the Sony World Photography Awards 2026, held in London.
Arnob, who is originally from Dhaka and is currently studying at Counter Foto – a Center for Visual Arts in Bangladesh, was recognized for his documentary photography series titled The Place Where I Used to Play. The project focuses on Green Model Town in Dhaka, capturing its changing landscape amid rapid urban development.
His work presents a poetic and atmospheric visual narrative that highlights a community and environment gradually disappearing under expanding city infrastructure. The series has been praised for its emotional depth and storytelling approach, reflecting both personal memory and social transformation.
As part of the award, Arnob and his educational institution will receive approximately €30,000 worth of Sony Digital Imaging equipment. He will also be provided with travel and accommodation support to attend the awards ceremony in London.
In addition, his work will be featured in the official exhibition and annual awards book, along with international promotion through the World Photography Organisation’s global platforms.
The recognition marks a significant milestone for the young photographer, placing him among emerging global talents in contemporary documentary photography.
