A dry cough causes a burning sensation in the throat but does not produce mucus or phlegm. In most cases, it persists after infections like a cold or flu. Honey
Honey is one of the most effective natural remedies for calming a dry cough. Its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties coat the throat, reduce irritation, and help suppress coughing. A study published in Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine found that honey was more effective than dextromethorphan in reducing nighttime cough in children.
You can take a teaspoon of honey several times a day or mix it in lightly warm water. However, honey should never be given to children under one year old, as it carries a risk of botulism.
Turmeric
Turmeric contains curcumin, a powerful compound with anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and antibacterial benefits. It is widely used to treat respiratory problems like bronchitis and asthma. Ginger
Ginger is known for its immune-boosting, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties. It helps soothe a burning throat and relieve coughing attacks.
Ginger tea is particularly effective. Simply soak peeled slices of ginger in hot water for a few minutes. Adding honey enhances both the taste and healing effects. For quicker relief, raw ginger can also be chewed.
Mint Leaves
Mint is rich in menthol, which acts as a natural decongestant and cough suppressant. It helps numb the nerve endings in the throat, reducing the urge to cough and alleviating congestion.
Mint tea is a comforting way to enjoy these benefits, especially before bedtime. Relief can also be obtained by inhaling steam infused with mint oil or using a diffuser with mint oil.
