Think of willpower as a kind of muscle. This “muscle” gets exhausted when fighting unnecessary activities like late-night phone scrolling, late-night eating, or binge-watching TV. Sticking to a proper evening routine puts your willpower on autopilot. Your brain can then make better decisions, allowing you to wake up early effortlessly.
3-Step Evening Routine
1. Digital Sunset
The blue light from smartphones and other devices suppresses melatonin production, which is essential for good sleep. Stay away from all digital devices at least 1.5 hours before bedtime.
2. Plan the Next Day
Write down the three most important tasks you will accomplish the next day just three. A list of 50 tasks only increases stress. A small, specific, and organized plan brings mental peace. Complete this step at least one hour before bedtime.
3. Mental Shutdown
Do something that gives you pure, simple joy without any calculation of gain or loss. For example, read a storybook, stretch, or simply stare at the wall. These activities calm your brain and prepare it for rest. Practice them at least 30 minutes before going to bed.
