Various Lip Problems and Their Remedies
The Chronify
The lips hold a special significance in enhancing the beauty of the face. In many poems, dialogues, and quotes composed by poets and writers, the word “lip” has been used with great emphasis. In this sense, lips are a prestigious element of literature. If their beauty is not maintained, the overall charm diminishes. Therefore, taking care of the lips is essential.
Cracked Lips
The skin covering the lips is very thin and sensitive, making it highly susceptible to environmental effects. When the relative humidity of the air decreases (or when the air becomes dry), as in winter, the moisture on the lips dries out quickly. Excessive dryness causes the lips to become rough, chapped, and cracked. Eating spicy food or even talking can become uncomfortable. Sometimes cracks may bleed and cause inflammation. Not only does this spoil the beauty of the lips, but it also causes mental discomfort.
To prevent this, applying Vaseline, glycerin, or petroleum jelly on the lips is recommended, especially before going to sleep. While some people naturally have drier lips than others, these protective measures should be used not only in winter but also in any dry environment.
Careless Use of Cosmetics
Wearing makeup is normal, but the quality of products like lipstick or lip liner is important. Using low-quality products or those that trigger allergies can cause inflammation and irritation on the lips. Therefore, it is crucial to be conscious of product quality, and if any allergic reaction occurs, stop using the product and consult a doctor.
Microbial Infections
Herpes simplex virus can cause sores on the lips, commonly known as cold sores. These infections are painful and spoil the beauty of the lips. Fungal infections like Candida may also cause lip problems. White sores at the corners of the lips are often due to vitamin B2 deficiency; in such cases, consuming vitamin-rich foods like leafy vegetables and fruits is recommended.
Regardless of the cause, any abnormal changes in the lips such as swelling, itching, or burning should prompt a consultation with a doctor.
Habits Affecting Lip Health
Some people have the habit of biting their lips or sucking them with the tongue. These habits are not only unattractive but also damage the beauty of the lips. Others may pinch or pull the lip skin with their fingernails to relieve stress. Such habits should be avoided, as they can lead to complications and affect overall lip health.
