Team VisionAid, led by Muhaiminul Abedin Farhan and Afnan Ahmed Bhuiyan, has earned top honors at WYSII 2026 in Bangkok, showcasing Bangladesh’s potential in AI-powered innovation for the visually impaired.
Bangladesh’s Team VisionAid has achieved international acclaim by winning the Gold Medal at the World Youth STEM Invention and Innovation 2026 (WYSII 2026) held in Bangkok, Thailand. The team, represented internationally by young innovators Muhaiminul Abedin Farhan and Afnan Ahmed Bhuiyan, also received the special “Panel’s Choice” award for their groundbreaking work in Computing, AI & Digital Innovation.
The four-member team, which includes Kazi Nahin and Tasnimul Hasan Nafis, developed VisionAid — an AI-powered smart glass designed to assist visually impaired individuals. The device can detect obstacles, identify objects and people, read text aloud, recognize currency, and provide real-time voice guidance, making advanced AI technology practical and life-changing.
Farhan and Afnan’s journey began in national science competitions, gradually building recognition through awards and international invitations. Despite financial constraints preventing two members from traveling to Thailand, the team’s dedication led them to compete against over 1,000 participants from 10 countries, ultimately securing the top position.
This achievement highlights the potential of Bangladeshi youth innovators to create world-class technology and succeed on the global stage, inspiring future generations of scientists and engineers in the country.
