Diet Coke Faces Supply Crunch in India Amid Global Aluminium Shortage

Can shortages linked to disrupted supply chains impact availability of Diet Coke in Indian markets
Coca-Cola is facing supply disruptions in India after a shortage of aluminium cans affected the availability of Diet Coke in the country. The product is primarily sold in cans in India, making it more vulnerable to packaging constraints compared to other soft drinks.
Industry sources reported that delays in shipments of aluminium cans, linked to global supply chain disruptions originating from tensions in the Gulf region, have impacted production schedules. The situation has been further complicated by reduced aluminium flow from key production zones in the region.
Distributors said they have been informed about rationed supplies, with some orders left unfulfilled due to the ongoing shortage. As a result, availability of Diet Coke has become inconsistent across retail markets.
In several regions of India, including parts of Uttar Pradesh, retailers have reported delays in deliveries and a shift in supply focus toward alternative products packaged in plastic bottles.
The beverage company continues to prioritize key growth markets such as India, where demand for low-sugar and diet beverages is rising. However, industry executives note that rising production costs and logistics disruptions are creating short-term challenges for supply stability.
The situation has also sparked widespread reactions on social media, where consumers have expressed frustration over the limited availability of the popular beverage.
