An international poll shows a dramatic shift in global opinion toward Pakistan following its role in facilitating the Iran-US ceasefire.
Global perception of Pakistan has significantly improved, with more than 70 percent of people now holding a positive view of the country, according to a survey conducted by international research firm Ipsos.
The report states that as recently as late last month, nearly 90 percent of global respondents had a negative perception of Pakistan’s diplomatic position. However, following the announcement of a ceasefire between Iran and the United States on Wednesday (April 8), global sentiment shifted rapidly in Pakistan’s favor.
Negative views had been particularly strong in countries such as the United States and India, as well as within Pakistan itself, where many citizens had questioned the government’s legitimacy and strategic decisions.
Following the ceasefire, the hashtag “Thank You Pakistan” has gained popularity on social media, reflecting growing international appreciation for Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts. Observers have praised the coordinated role played by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the country’s military leadership.
Some Indian social media users have also acknowledged Pakistan’s diplomatic success, while criticizing their own government’s position.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held separate meetings on Saturday (April 11) with both Iranian and US delegations in Islamabad ahead of planned peace talks. The Iranian delegation was led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, Sharif appreciated Iran’s participation in the peace process and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to facilitating dialogue for regional and global stability.
Senior officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Army Chief Asim Munir, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, were present during the discussions.
Diplomatic sources say Islamabad is actively working to facilitate direct negotiations between the United States and Iran, aiming to achieve a lasting resolution to the ongoing conflict.
