Pakistan Warns of Possible Strike on Kolkata Amid Rising Tensions with India

Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has warned of potential retaliation targeting Kolkata if India undertakes any “provocative actions,” escalating already tense relations between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has issued a strong warning, stating that Pakistan could target Kolkata if India carries out any “adventurous or provocative actions” in the future. His remarks come amid heightened tensions between the two countries following recent exchanges of threats.

According to Indian media outlet NDTV, the statements were made ahead of the anniversary of the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 lives last year. The warning follows recent comments by India’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, who cautioned Islamabad that any repeat of “terrorist attacks” would trigger unprecedented action against Pakistan.

Asif alleged that India might attempt a “false flag” operation and warned that Pakistan would respond forcefully if such a situation arises. However, he did not provide evidence to support the claim. He emphasized that while Pakistan remains committed to peace and regional stability, it is fully prepared to defend its sovereignty with a swift and decisive response.

There has been no immediate official reaction from India regarding Asif’s latest remarks.

Earlier, Asif had dismissed the likelihood of a full-scale war between the two nuclear-armed nations as unrealistic, but reiterated that any military action by India would be met with a calculated and prompt countermeasure.

Meanwhile, Rajnath Singh, speaking at an event in Kerala, stated that India would take “unprecedented and decisive action” against any aggressive moves by Pakistan. He referred to India’s previous military response following the Pahalgam attack in April 2025, claiming that Indian forces had dismantled terrorist infrastructure across the border during “Operation Sindur.”

Singh further warned that the operation was not over and that any future provocation would be met with a response that Pakistan “would never forget.”

The exchange of strong statements from both sides underscores growing regional tensions, raising concerns over stability between the two neighboring countries.
