The UK said its recognition of Palestine is based on the 1967 borders, to be finalised through future negotiations, and includes full legal rights and obligations of statehood.
Palestine has officially opened its embassy in the United Kingdom, a move described as a historic milestone.
The inauguration took place yesterday in Hammersmith, west London. Palestinian Ambassador to the UK Husam Zomlot said the opening marked a major step in British-Palestinian relations.
The embassy follows the UK’s decision in September to formally recognise Palestine as an independent state, made amid the ongoing war in Gaza.
Zomlot said the embassy carries full diplomatic status and represents the Palestinian people’s right to sovereign statehood and equal standing among nations. He added that it sends a message to Palestinians in Gaza, the occupied West Bank, East Jerusalem, refugee camps, and the diaspora that their identity and rights cannot be denied.
He described the move as a landmark moment for a people who have long been denied self-determination.

Alistair Harrison, marshal of the diplomatic corps, also called the embassy’s opening a historic moment. He said it marked an important new phase and a significant shift in relations between the two sides.
