Trump Claims Iran Near “Collapse,” Urges Strait of Hormuz Reopening

Donald Trump has claimed that Iran is “on the verge of collapse” due to mounting pressure from a naval blockade, stating that Tehran has requested the United States to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Trump, Iranian authorities have urged Washington to lift restrictions on the vital shipping route as soon as possible, citing internal challenges. The remarks come amid an indefinite ceasefire declared by the US last week, while both sides continue to explore potential diplomatic solutions.

Reports indicate that Iran has proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for progress toward ending hostilities, with discussions on its nuclear programme to follow at a later stage. However, Trump has expressed dissatisfaction with the proposal.

Marco Rubio described the offer as better than expected but stressed that any final agreement must ensure Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons—an allegation Tehran has consistently denied.

Meanwhile, US Central Command said dozens of vessels have been turned back from Iranian ports, and new sanctions have been imposed on multiple individuals and entities linked to alleged militant activities.
 

Regional leaders, including those from Gulf states, have called for the reopening of the Strait, warning that prolonged disruption could escalate instability across global energy markets.
