Trump Threatens Naval Blockade of Ships in Strait of Hormuz After Failed Iran Talks

US President warns of immediate action against vessels linked to Iran as tensions escalate following unsuccessful peace negotiations.
US President Donald Trump has warned that American forces could begin blocking vessels attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, just hours after the collapse of high-level talks between the United States and Iran in Islamabad.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump stated that the US Navy had been instructed to identify and stop any ships operating in international waters that had paid tolls to Iran. He added that vessels involved in such activities would face serious risks and would not be guaranteed safe passage.
Trump emphasized that while the long-term goal remains ensuring free navigation for all, Iran’s actions had prevented that outcome. His remarks signal a sharp escalation in rhetoric over one of the world’s most critical maritime routes.
The Strait of Hormuz is a key global energy corridor, through which roughly 20 percent of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas supplies are transported. The issue of navigation and control over the waterway has been a major sticking point in recent diplomatic discussions.
Iranian officials have repeatedly described the strait as a strategic “red line.” According to Iranian sources, authorities in Tehran insist that the waterway falls under their control and that transit fees must be paid in the local currency.
The latest developments come after peace talks between Washington and Tehran ended without an agreement. While both sides acknowledged some progress, disagreements over key issues—particularly maritime security and economic measures—remain unresolved.
With tensions rising and no diplomatic breakthrough in sight, concerns are growing over potential disruptions to global trade and energy supplies if the situation continues to deteriorate.
