Trump Withdraws Invite for Canada’s Carney to Join ‘Board of Peace’
The Chronify
US President Donald Trump has withdrawn Canada’s participation from his proposed “Board of Peace,” days after Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke of a rupture in the US-led global order. The decision comes as world leaders gather in Davos for the board’s signing ceremony.
US President Donald Trump has withdrawn the invitation previously extended to Mark Carney for Canada to join his newly announced Board of Peace.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote: “Please let this Letter serve to represent that the Board of Peace is withdrawing its invitation to you regarding Canada’s joining.” No further explanation was provided in the message.
The move follows remarks made this week by Prime Minister Carney, who drew widespread international attention after stating that there was a “rupture” in the US-led global order—comments that resonated across diplomatic and economic circles. Carney’s government has also made clear that Canada would not pay to join Trump’s self-styled body aimed at resolving global conflicts.
Trump has formally unveiled the Board of Peace with himself serving as its chairman, presenting it as a new international mechanism to oversee conflict resolution and post-war governance in several regions.
World leaders are currently gathered in Davos, Switzerland, where the signing ceremony of the Board of Peace is taking place on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum. The withdrawal of Canada’s invitation has added a fresh layer of controversy to the initiative, which has already drawn mixed reactions from US allies.
