Washington announces immediate maritime restrictions targeting Iranian ports, while Iranian officials vow resistance amid rising regional tensions.

The United States is set to begin a naval blockade targeting Iranian ports starting Monday, according to an announcement by Donald Trump. The move follows the collapse of recent high-level talks between Washington and Tehran, further escalating tensions in the region.

In a statement shared on his social media platform, Trump said the blockade would take effect at 10:00 a.m. Washington time (02:00 GMT), warning that vessels entering or leaving Iranian ports would face immediate restrictions. The decision comes shortly after diplomatic efforts in Islamabad failed to produce any agreement between the United States and Iran.

The US Central Command also confirmed the operation, stating that the blockade would apply to all vessels navigating Iranian coastal areas, including key routes in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. Officials indicated that the measure is part of broader efforts to pressure Tehran following ongoing disputes over maritime security and regional stability.

Iran, however, responded with a sharp warning. Mohsen Rezaei, a senior military adviser to Iran’s leadership, said any attempt to enforce a naval blockade would ultimately fail. He emphasized that Iran possesses undisclosed military capabilities and would not allow such actions to be implemented.

Rezaei also referenced previous confrontations in the Strait of Hormuz, suggesting that similar efforts by the United States had not succeeded in the past. Iranian authorities reiterated that any external attempt to control or restrict their maritime access would be met with firm resistance.

The development marks a significant escalation in an already fragile geopolitical environment, raising concerns about potential disruptions to global shipping routes and energy supplies.
