Four people, including a child, were burned to death after a bus caught fire following a collision involving a bus, an autorickshaw and a motorcycle on the Dhaka–Chittagong highway in Daudkandi, Comilla.
At least four people were killed on Friday afternoon when a bus burst into flames after a three-vehicle collision in Daudkandi.
The accident occurred in the Baniapara area on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway, involving a passenger bus, an autorickshaw and a motorcycle.
Iqbal Bahar Mojumder, officer-in-charge of the Daudkandi Highway Police Station, said police recovered four charred bodies from the scene. The identities of the victims could not be confirmed immediately.
According to police, a collision between the motorcycle and the bus is believed to have caused fuel to leak from the motorcycle’s tank. The leaked fuel then ignited, rapidly engulfing the bus in flames.
Fire service personnel rushed to the spot after being alerted and managed to bring the fire under control. However, by the time the blaze was extinguished, the victims had already died due to severe burns.
Police said further investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the crash and whether negligence was involved. Traffic on the busy highway was temporarily disrupted following the incident.
