Eight inbound flights were diverted on Saturday as dense fog reduced visibility at Dhaka’s main airport. Authorities said the decision was taken to ensure passenger safety amid poor weather conditions.
At least eight inbound flights to Dhaka were diverted to alternate airports on Saturday due to dense fog that sharply reduced visibility at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, airport authorities said.
Officials explained that the diversions were made purely on safety grounds after visibility dropped below operational limits at the capital’s main airport. Of the affected flights, three were redirected to Shah Amanat International Airport, four landed in Kolkata, and one was rerouted to Suvarnabhumi Airport, according to airport officials.
Authorities said normal flight operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport will resume once weather conditions improve and visibility returns to acceptable levels.
Meanwhile, the airlines concerned are providing necessary assistance to affected passengers, including meals and hotel accommodation, in line with aviation regulations. Airport authorities thanked passengers for their patience and cooperation during the temporary disruption.
