Final Tributes Paid as Body Leaves Gulshan for Parliament Complex
The body of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson, Begum Khaleda Zia, was transferred from her residence in Gulshan to Manik Mia Avenue on Wednesday, December 31, for her Namaz-e-Janaza. The red-and-green flag-draped ambulance carrying her body left her son Tarique Rahman’s residence at 11 AM, where family members, political leaders, and supporters paid their respects.
The Namaz-e-Janaza will be held at 2 PM at the South Plaza of the National Parliament, with thousands expected to gather. Following the Janaza, Begum Khaleda Zia will be laid to rest beside her late husband, former President Ziaur Rahman, at 3:30 PM.
Earlier in the day, at 8:55 AM, her body was taken from Evercare Hospital in the same flag-draped ambulance. At 9:15 AM, it arrived at her son’s residence, where party workers and family members bid their final farewells.
Meanwhile, people continued to flock to the capital early in the morning despite the chill, with political leaders and representatives from South and Southeast Asia arriving to pay their respects. The entire area around the National Parliament has been secured with heightened security measures.
Begum Khaleda Zia passed away at Evercare Hospital on December 30 at 6 AM at the age of 80, leaving the nation in mourning.
