The decision comes amid signs of improving bilateral ties, driven by recent diplomatic contacts and cooperation initiatives between Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines is set to resume direct flights on the Dhaka–Karachi–Dhaka route from January 29, restoring nonstop air links between Bangladesh and Pakistan after more than ten years.
In a press release issued yesterday, the national flag carrier said it will initially operate two weekly services, scheduled for Thursdays and Saturdays.
Under the proposed timetable, flights will depart Dhaka at 8:00 pm local time and arrive in Karachi at 11:00 pm. Return flights are set to leave Karachi at 12:00 am and reach Dhaka at 4:20 am local time.
At present, most travelers between the two countries rely on one-stop connections through regional hubs such as Dubai or Doha. The return of direct services is expected to significantly reduce travel time and improve convenience.
Biman said the restart of nonstop flights will help promote people-to-people exchanges, while also supporting trade, tourism, and family travel between the two nations.
Airline officials noted that discussions with Pakistani authorities had been underway for several months to revive the route. Once launched, the service will mark the first direct Dhaka–Karachi flights since 2012.
The decision comes amid signs of improving bilateral ties, driven by recent diplomatic contacts and cooperation initiatives between Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Aviation analysts described the route as both commercially viable and strategically important, emphasizing that direct air connectivity plays a key role in strengthening economic relations and broader engagement.
Biman reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high safety standards and service quality, adding that the flights will be operated using modern aircraft and experienced flight crews.
