Dhaka University Metro Station to Stay Closed on Pahela Baishakh
The Chronify
Authorities suspend metro services at key stations amid expected large crowds during Bengali New Year celebrations.
The Dhaka University Metro Station will remain closed throughout April 14, while the Shahbagh Metro Station will stay shut until noon, according to a notice issued by Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited.
Officials said the decision was taken in anticipation of large public gatherings in the Shahbagh and Dhaka University areas during Pahela Baishakh celebrations. The high turnout is expected to make it challenging to maintain regular metro operations safely.
Although the official circular did not specify detailed reasons, a DMTCL representative confirmed that crowd management and passenger safety were the primary concerns behind the temporary suspension.
The metro authority also expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to commuters, urging passengers to plan alternative transportation routes during the closure period.
Pahela Baishakh, the Bengali New Year, is widely celebrated across Bangladesh with cultural events, processions, and gatherings, particularly in central Dhaka, making areas like Shahbagh and Dhaka University key focal points of activity.
