Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) has revealed who ordered the murder of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Bin Hadi.
DB chief Md. Shafiqul Islam said Hadi was killed in a planned attack due to political rivalry.
At a press conference on Tuesday (January 6) at the DB office on Minto Road, he said Hadi’s murder was carried out on the orders of Pallabi Thana Jubo League president and former North City Corporation councilor Tajul Islam Chowdhury Bappi.
The police said Hadi was targeted because of his strong opposition stance.
A total of 17 people, including Faisal Karim Masud, have been accused in the case. A charge sheet has been submitted to the court. So far, 12 of the accused have been arrested, and 5 are still on the run. Investigators have found specific evidence against each of them.
About a video message from accused Faisal Karim Masud, the DB chief said there is no basis for it, and evidence shows his direct involvement in the case.
On December 12, a day after the election and referendum schedule was announced, Hadi was shot by a rickshaw puller from a moving motorcycle in Purana Paltan. He was taken to Singapore in critical condition but died on December 18.
The case was first filed as an attempted murder, but later it was changed to a murder case.
