Violence erupts between two groups over control of newly emerged land in Meghna River
At least five people were killed in a violent clash today in Jaglar Char village, located in the Sukhchar union of Hatiya upazila, Noakhali. The conflict, which took place around 10 am, involved two groups fighting for control over a newly emerged char land in the Meghna River.
According to Hatiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Saiful Alam, the clash also left several others injured. The conflict between the local Monir Member group and the Shanto group had been escalating for days, with sporadic clashes reported over control of the char land. The political affiliations of the groups have not been confirmed.
By the afternoon, police had recovered five bodies from the scene, although their identities are still unknown. To maintain order and prevent further violence, police forces have been deployed in the area. The situation remains tense, with authorities working to control the unrest.
