Major recruitment drive announced alongside reforms in sports, curriculum, and digital learning initiatives

The government has decided to recruit 9,000 teachers for religious and other vacant posts across educational institutions, according to officials. The announcement was made on 18 April during a press briefing at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon.

Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr. Mahdi Amin said the decision is part of a broader set of reforms aimed at improving the education sector. He noted that the recruitment will cover multiple levels of teaching positions to address existing shortages in schools and institutions nationwide.

The briefing also highlighted several ongoing initiatives, including opening school grounds for children’s use, appointing sports teachers at the upazila level, and expanding access to public playgrounds in urban areas.

Officials said that from the upcoming academic year, sports education will become mandatory for students starting from class four. Additionally, extracurricular activities such as the revival of the “Notun Kuri” talent competition are being expanded to include sports and Quran recitation.

Other initiatives include free distribution of school uniforms, shoes, and bags to thousands of primary school students, as well as pilot projects introducing a “one teacher, one tablet” digital learning system.

The government also confirmed efforts to modernize madrasa education through smart classrooms, teacher training programs, and the inclusion of technical courses to align with current educational demands.

According to officials, a sports allowance program has already been launched, benefiting more than a hundred athletes so far, as part of wider efforts to strengthen youth development and national talent cultivation.
