Govt Strips 12 ‘July Fighters’ of Recognition Over False Data

The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has revoked the gazetted status of 12 individuals previously recognized as 'July Fighters' due to the submission of fraudulent information.

The government of Bangladesh has officially removed 12 names from the "July Fighters Gazette," a list honoring participants of the 2024 mass uprising. The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs issued a notification on Saturday, January 31, 2026, citing Section 11(4) of the Martyrs’ Families and July Fighters Welfare and Rehabilitation Ordinance, 2025 as the legal basis for the cancellation. While the public notice did not elaborate on specific details, ministry officials confirmed that the individuals were removed after investigations revealed they had used false information to secure their enlistment.

The revoked individuals all belonged to the 'G' category of July fighters and were concentrated in two primary regions:

Dinajpur (Rangpur Division): Tasfia Rifa, Md. Asaduzzaman Noor, Md. Suruj Mia, Kahinur, and Sakhina.
Chandpur (Chittagong Division): Md. Kamrul Hasan Rabbi, Md. Raihan, Md. Yousuf Ali, Nahidul Islam Ratul, Shahjalal, and Md. Abdullah Al Mamun.

This latest action follows a massive audit on October 29 last year, where 128 names were scrapped for being duplicates or for containing fabricated data. Government records currently recognize approximately 13,800 July fighters and 836 martyrs. Authorities have reiterated that the verification process remains ongoing to ensure that only genuine participants of the anti-discrimination movement receive official recognition and benefits.
