Court Grants Four-Week Interim Bail to Surabhi, Cancels Her Remand
Tahrima Jannat Surabhi, known as a ‘July Fighter’, was granted four weeks of interim bail by the Gazipur District Court on January 5, 2026. The court cancelled her previous remand order and ruled in favor of her bail after considering factors such as her age. Surabhi was released from jail at around 7:45 PM the same day.
Her lawyer, Mustafizur Rahman Kamal, General Secretary of the Gazipur Bar Association, stated that they had filed a revision petition against the two-day remand order issued earlier by the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court in Gazipur. After hearing the petition, the judge took Surabhi's age and other factors into consideration and granted her bail.
Prior to this, on December 24, 2025, Surabhi was arrested by a joint task force from her home in Tongi, Gazipur. She is an active member of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and is widely known as one of the prominent ‘July Fighters’ in the country. The remand order and her arrest had sparked protests in the court premises by her supporters.
