In a significant bust at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, aviation security officials have seized 1,640 illegal yaba tablets from the luggage of an international traveler. The drugs were discovered on Wednesday night, November 20, during a routine check-in procedure.
The passenger, identified as Mohammad Samir (Passport No. A18310312), was traveling from Dhaka to the Maldives via Kuala Lumpur. He is from Chunarughat, Habiganj, in the Sylhet district.
At approximately 10 PM, ASG Abul Kalam, a vigilant security officer, discovered the illicit drugs while inspecting the passenger's luggage. Following the discovery, the airport authorities immediately informed the Narcotics Control Department, which responded promptly by offloading, detaining, and taking the passenger into custody.
Authorities have initiated necessary legal procedures, including preparing a seizure list and conducting preliminary questioning of the passenger. The swift action of ASG Abul Kalam, praised for his alertness and professionalism, thwarted what could have been a major drug trafficking operation.
The incident underscores the heightened security at the airport, reinforcing the strength of Bangladesh's aviation security measures. The authorities continue to work diligently to prevent illegal drug trafficking through the country's busiest airport.
