Tarique Rahman has announced a three-month assistance programme for farmers affected by heavy rainfall in northeastern Bangladesh.
The announcement came during a parliamentary session while responding to a query raised by lawmakers. The prime minister said local administrations in Mymensingh, Kishoreganj, and Sunamganj have already been instructed to take immediate measures to support affected farmers.
He noted that advance warnings based on weather forecasts had prompted early preparedness steps, but heavy rains still caused crop damage in several areas. Authorities have now been directed to compile detailed lists of impacted farmers to ensure targeted and uninterrupted assistance.
The government is coordinating with relevant ministries to roll out relief and rehabilitation measures over the next three months. Officials at the field level will play a key role in identifying beneficiaries and overseeing aid distribution.
The prime minister also confirmed that discussions have taken place with disaster management authorities to strengthen response efforts. He assured that the situation is being closely monitored and emphasized that no affected farmer will be left without support, although specific forms of assistance have yet to be detailed.
