Proposal to purchase LNG from Singapore approved

To meet the growing energy demand, a proposal to purchase liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Aramco Trading Singapore Private Limited under a short-term government-to-government (G2G) agreement has received policy approval.
At the 37th meeting of the Advisory Committee on Economic Affairs, held in the Cabinet Division’s conference room at the Secretariat, policy approval was granted for several proposals. The meeting was chaired by Economic Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.
The proposal presented by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division was approved, allowing the purchase of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Aramco Trading Singapore Private Limited on a short-term, government-to-government (G2G) basis under Section 68 of the Public Procurement Act, 2006 and relevant provisions of the Public Procurement Rules, 2025.
On the same day, the Economic Affairs Committee gave policy approval to a total of four proposals related to the commerce, ICT, energy, and shipping sectors.
According to the Cabinet Division, the proposals were submitted by the Ministry of Commerce, the Information and Communication Technology Division, the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, and the Ministry of Shipping.
The committee, in principle, approved the Ministry of Commerce’s proposal to release motor vehicles over five years old that were purchased through auction.
It also approved the ICT Division’s proposal to establish an e-waste management plant at Kaliakoir Hi-Tech Park in Gazipur under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
In addition, based on the Ministry of Shipping’s proposal, the committee approved the concession agreement between the Chittagong Port Authority and APM Terminals BV of Denmark for implementing and operating the Laldia Container Terminal at Chittagong Port under the PPP model.
The project will be implemented under a Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) framework with a 48-year tenure, including a 33-year core concession period and an additional 15-year extension period.
