Rampal Records Highest Power Generation
The Power Plant supplied 640 million units in December, the highest nationwide, ensuring stable power during Ramadan with sufficient coal reserves.
The Maitree Super Thermal Power Plant in Rampal recorded the country’s highest electricity supply to the national grid in December 2025, plant officials said.
Authorities reported that the facility produced 640 million units (MU) of electricity during the month, representing 11.5 percent of Bangladesh’s total power generation. Nationwide electricity output in December reached 5,531 million units.
The figures were disclosed in a press statement issued yesterday by Anwarul Azim, Deputy General Manager (Public Relations) of the plant.
According to the statement, the power station also delivered strong output in the previous month, reflecting steady and reliable operational performance. Officials said the coal supply chain remains stable, with approximately 800,000 metric tons of coal unloaded over the past two months. Current coal reserves at the plant stand at around 200,000 tons.
Plant authorities expressed confidence that electricity supply will remain uninterrupted during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, citing adequate fuel reserves and consistent generation capacity.
The Maitree Super Thermal Power Plant is a Bangladesh-India joint venture that operates on imported coal and uses ultra-supercritical technology, designed to improve efficiency while reducing emissions.
To mitigate environmental impact, the facility is equipped with advanced pollution-control and safety systems, including a Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) unit, electrostatic precipitators, a 275-meter chimney, a closed-cycle cooling system, and a zero liquid discharge mechanism.
