Shuaib Ahmed, who secured the first position in Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) entrance exam in 2015, has passed away after a prolonged battle with a brain tumor.

Shuaib Ahmed, who achieved the top rank in the 2015 Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) entrance exam, passed away on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Evercare Hospital after a long struggle with brain cancer. He was receiving life support at the time of his passing. Shuaib, who was enrolled in the Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) department of BUET, had been battling the severe illness for several years. His death has left his friends, family, and the BUET community in mourning.

 

Shuaib, a former student of Notre Dame College in Dhaka, had earned nationwide recognition after emerging as the first-place winner in BUET’s highly competitive entrance exam in 2015, surpassing thousands of other candidates. He later joined the EEE department at BUET.

 

In an official statement, BUET students expressed their sorrow and admiration for Shuaib, referring to him as an enormous inspiration for many juniors. “Shuaib Bhai was a beacon of excellence. His name on papers and posters encouraged many of us to dream of studying at BUET,” the statement said.

 

His funeral will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, after the Jumu'ah prayer at his hometown in Harenda village, Pabhibi, Joypurhat.

 

Despite his academic brilliance, Shuaib was known for his humility and calm demeanor. His passing has left a deep void among those who knew him.
