In the ongoing Test match against Ireland at Mirpur, Taijul claimed two wickets in the second innings, bringing his total Test wickets to 248.
The milestone was reached after Taijul took four wickets in the first innings, drawing level with Shakib, who previously held the record with 246 wickets. In the second innings, Taijul's performance, which included two wickets, gave him the edge over Shakib, cementing his position as the most successful Test bowler for Bangladesh.
As of this report, Ireland, chasing a daunting target of 509 runs, has managed 33 runs for the loss of 2 wickets after 9 overs, with Taijul claiming both wickets. The record-breaking performance marks another milestone in Taijul's remarkable career, which has seen him play 57 Test matches, significantly fewer than Shakib, who took 71 matches to reach his previous record.
With this achievement, Taijul now has the opportunity to become the first Bangladeshi cricketer to reach 250 Test wickets, a significant milestone in the country's cricketing history.
