Tarique Rahman Appeals for Prayers and Apologies During His Mother’s Janaza
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, in a deeply emotional appeal, requested everyone to pray for the eternal peace of his mother, former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, during her Namaz-e-Janaza held on December 31. Speaking before the Janaza, he said, "I am Tarique Rahman, the elder son of late Begum Khaleda Zia... please pray for my mother so that Allah grants her the Jannat."
He further requested anyone who felt his mother owed them anything to reach out, promising to make arrangements for repayment. Tarique also apologized on behalf of his mother for any hurt caused by her actions or words during her lifetime.
The Namaz-e-Janaza was led by Mufti Mohammad Abdul Malek, Khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque. BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan presented a tribute to Begum Zia, describing her as an "uncompromising leader."
Among those who attended the funeral prayers were Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury, foreign dignitaries, interim government advisers, and top political, civil, and military figures. Mourners from across the country expressed their grief, shedding tears as they bid farewell to their beloved leader.
After the Janaza, her body was laid to rest beside her husband, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, at Zia Udyan with full state honors.
