The United States has announced emergency support for Bangladesh’s measles-rubella vaccination campaign, supplying over 21.9 million doses through UNICEF.

The United States will provide more than 21.9 million measles-rubella (MR) vaccines to Bangladesh as part of an emergency immunization support program, according to a statement from the US Embassy in Dhaka on Wednesday (April 15, 2026).

The vaccines will be delivered through UNICEF to assist Bangladesh’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in strengthening its nationwide measles-rubella vaccination campaign. Under the initiative, approximately 120 million children under the age of five are expected to receive protection from the disease.

Officials said the support is part of the US administration’s “America First Global Health Strategy,” which focuses on preventing disease outbreaks abroad to improve global health security and reduce risks to both partner countries and the United States.

The initiative is also aimed at strengthening international health systems and ensuring better protection against infectious diseases in vulnerable populations.

According to the embassy, preventing outbreaks in one country contributes to global safety by reducing cross-border health risks and improving long-term disease control efforts.
