Elderly Husband Pedals Rickshaw 300 Km with Paralyzed Wife for Treatment
The Chronify
In a remarkable act of love and determination, an elderly man from Odisha, India, traveled 300 km with his paralyzed wife on a pedal rickshaw to get her medical treatment.
Babu Lohar (75), from the village of Modipara in Sambalpur district, Odisha, has set an extraordinary example of human compassion. Despite his age and physical limitations, Lohar traveled almost 300 kilometers by pedal-powered rickshaw, carrying his paralyzed wife, Jyoti (70), for specialized treatment.
After Jyoti suffered a stroke, local doctors in Sambalpur recommended that she receive specialized care at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. However, due to financial constraints and an inability to afford private ambulance services, Babu Lohar converted his rickshaw into a makeshift ambulance.
It took him nine days to cover the distance from Sambalpur to Cuttack. Despite the physical challenges of the long journey, Lohar continued riding during the day and resting by roadside shops at night. His efforts were successful, and they reached the hospital where Jyoti received two months of intensive treatment.
On January 19, the couple began their return journey. Unfortunately, an accident near Chaudwar caused Jyoti to sustain serious injuries when their rickshaw was hit by a car. She was temporarily stopped at a nearby health center for treatment. The accident caught the attention of healthcare workers, and Dr. Bikash from the center not only provided medical help but also offered financial support to assist them in continuing their journey.
This story of dedication and selflessness highlights the strength of human love and resilience.
