The National Citizen Party (NCP) formally began its election campaign by paying tribute to prominent national leaders in Dhaka. Convener Nahid Islam urged voters across the country to back the 10-party alliance and support NCP candidates.

The National Citizen Party (NCP) officially launched its election campaign on Thursday by visiting the graves of several national leaders and cultural icons in the capital.

NCP leaders and activists first paid homage at the graves of Huseyn Suhrawardy, Khwaja Nazimuddin, and AK Fazlul Huq at Doel Chattar. They later visited the graves of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and Inqilab Mancha leader Sharif Osman Hadi near Dhaka University’s Central Mosque, offering prayers and paying respects.

Following the grave visits, the party’s senior leadership formally announced the start of its election campaign.

Speaking to journalists, Nahid Islam, convener of the NCP, called on voters nationwide to support the 10-party alliance and elect NCP’s 30 candidates contesting under the Shapla Kali symbol.

He said the NCP and its allies aim to represent ordinary citizens in Parliament, focusing on public empowerment, state reforms, and safeguarding national sovereignty. Nahid Islam also highlighted that demanding justice in the murder case of Sharif Osman Hadi and campaigning for a “Yes” vote in the upcoming referendum are central priorities of the party.

Stressing accountability, he said all legal steps in the Osman Hadi murder case - including completion of the chargesheet process - must be finalized before the election. “We will ensure proper justice for this murder on Bangladeshi soil,” he asserted.

The program was attended by numerous party leaders and activists, including Dhaka-8 candidate Nasiruddin Patwary.

After the launch event, NCP leaders and supporters began a “March for Justice” towards the National Press Club, where party leaders are scheduled to address a public gathering.
