Madina’s Qiblatain Mosque to remain open 24 hours

Saudi Arabia's historic and sacred Qiblatain Mosque will now remain open 24 hours a day throughout the year. Recently, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdul Aziz, issued this directive. With this decision by the Saudi authorities, worshippers and visitors can enter the mosque at any time to perform prayers, supplications, and worship.

The Qiblatain Mosque holds a special place in Islamic history. It was here that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), while leading prayer, received divine revelation instructing Muslims to change their prayer direction (qibla) from the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem to the Holy Kaaba in Mecca.

Previously, Muslims prayed facing Jerusalem. In remembrance of this significant event, the mosque was named “Masjid al-Qiblatain” or “The Mosque of the Two Qiblas.”

Inside the mosque, both the current qibla (towards Mecca) and the former qibla (towards Jerusalem) are marked, allowing worshippers to easily identify the earlier direction of prayer.

As one of Madinah’s important historical landmarks, the Qiblatain Mosque attracts hundreds of thousands of Muslim visitors and pilgrims every year.

With the recent initiative by the Saudi authorities, visitors can now enter the mosque at any time for prayer, supplication, and worship.
