Bangladesh to play against Italy!
The Chronify
In the 2026 T20 World Cup, Bangladesh will play against a team that very few people have heard of in international cricket: Italy.
According to ICC’s planned grouping, England, West Indies, Bangladesh, Italy, and Nepal will be in the same group for the 2026 T20 World Cup. This means Bangladesh will face Italy as a new opponent in the group stage.
Italy is not considered a strong team in international cricket, but after performing well in the European qualifiers, they have earned a spot in the World Cup. This match will provide Bangladesh with a different experience.
A leaked grouping on CricBuzz shows that the 20 participating teams will be divided into five groups of four. After the league stage, the top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Eight, which will then be divided into two groups of four.
The Pakistan–India clash is also generating interest. Both teams are in the same group, with their match scheduled for 15 February at Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium. The full schedule will be released on 25 November.
Sri Lanka will face a tough group alongside Australia, Zimbabwe, Ireland, and Oman. Another group will include South Africa, New Zealand, Afghanistan, UAE, and Canada.
The 2026 T20 World Cup is scheduled to run from 7 February to 8 March, with the final likely in Ahmedabad or Colombo, though the venue may change if Pakistan reaches the final.
Teams participating include host nations India and Sri Lanka, Super Eight teams from the 2024 World Cup, Pakistan, New Zealand, and Ireland based on ICC rankings, and regional qualifiers: Canada, Netherlands, Italy, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Nepal, Oman, and UAE.
