Bangladesh Cricket Board pays tribute to former fast bowler at Mirpur, recognizing his contribution to international cricket
The Bangladesh Cricket Board has officially honored former national team pacer Rubel Hossain following his retirement from international cricket.
The recognition ceremony took place on April 20 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, just before the start of the second One Day International between Bangladesh and New Zealand. Rubel was presented with a commemorative crest in acknowledgment of his contributions to the national side.
The event was attended by key officials, including BCB’s ad-hoc committee chairman Tamim Iqbal, along with board directors and CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury Sujon.
Speaking at the ceremony, Rubel expressed gratitude to the board and Tamim Iqbal for the gesture, describing the recognition as a proud and emotional moment. He also acknowledged the role of his early mentor Sarwar Imran, who identified his talent through a pace-hunting program and helped shape his career.
The pacer extended thanks to his family, teammates, and support staff, highlighting their contributions during both successful and challenging phases of his journey.
Rubel Hossain, who made his international debut in 2009, represented Bangladesh across all formats, claiming 129 wickets in ODIs, 36 in Tests, and 28 in T20 Internationals. He also achieved five-wicket hauls in both Test and ODI formats during his career.
Having last played for the national team in 2021, Rubel recently announced his retirement through social media. As he did not get a formal on-field farewell at the time, the BCB arranged this tribute to mark his departure from international cricket.
Despite stepping away from the international stage, Rubel has indicated that he intends to continue playing in domestic competitions.
