The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) has begun without an official trophy photoshoot, as the tournament’s trophy has not yet arrived in the country a situation that has sparked discussion and criticism.
However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has said that the new BPL trophy will be unveiled soon. According to the board, the franchise league’s trophy is being manufactured by a company based in Dubai, and it is costing the BCB a significant amount. The new trophy is priced at USD 25,000, which is approximately Tk 3.1 million.
Speaking to reporters in Sylhet on Friday, BCB vice-president and governing council member Sakhawat Hossain said:
“The previous trophy was very conventional. Another one was introduced later, but it was not up to the mark. That’s why we are replacing it again with a new trophy. It will arrive very soon.”
The BCB also indicated that the trophy may arrive midway through the tournament. Once it arrives, an official unveiling ceremony may be arranged, and there is speculation that a captains’ photoshoot could also be held at that time.
