BGB and Bangladesh Army Enhance Border Security with Advanced Munitions and Training
Documents and defense reports from 2024 to early 2026 reveal a strategic acquisition by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), in collaboration with the Bangladesh Army, of a comprehensive operational "ecosystem" for the ALCOTAN-100 (M2) system. This procurement goes beyond the mere purchase of rockets, aiming to strengthen border security and defensive preparedness.
The 100mm man-portable ALCOTAN-100 system is being equipped with a variety of specialized munitions, including anti-tank, anti-bunker, and dual-purpose variants, to address a wide range of security threats. Recent tenders show a clear focus on enhancing defensive capabilities rather than expanding offensive power, particularly with anti-tank and anti-bunker rounds.
A standout feature of this acquisition is the VOSEL (M2)-IR Fire Control Unit. This advanced sighting system, featuring thermal imaging, laser rangefinding, and a ballistic computer, will enhance accuracy in low-visibility environments. To support the effective use of the system, the authorities are also investing in training infrastructure, such as simulation systems for practice without live firing.
This acquisition reflects a broader trend towards technology-driven modernization, prioritizing precision, training, and operational efficiency while keeping both costs and risks in check.
