Cox's Bazar to Be First 'Cashless' District

To implement cashless Bangladesh, every citizen should have a smart phone worth Tk 6000 to TK 7000. RTGS will be introduced very soon at all ports and airports in Bangladesh for round-the-clock transactions to facilitate import and export work.

Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur said that an initiative has been taken to make Cox's Bazar the first district in Bangladesh a cashless district.

To implement cashless Bangladesh, every citizen should have a smart phone worth Tk 6000 to TK 7000. RTGS will be introduced very soon at all ports and airports in Bangladesh for round-the-clock transactions to facilitate import and export work.

The Governor said these things at a meeting titled 'Economic Potential of the Region and What the Central Bank Can Do at the Regional Level' at Radisson Blu in Chattogram city yesterday.

Bangladesh Bank Additional Director Mohammad Abdullah Al Amin presented a concept paper on what to do at the meeting.

At that time, the Governor said that regional and global connectivity like Singapore, Dubai and Hong Kong should be increased for the geopolitical and economic development of the Chattogram region. The Chattogram region is the heart of Bangladesh's economy. This region is a unique region of sea, mountains and plains. A strong role of the financial sector is essential to realize this potential. As the central bank, our responsibility is to ensure adequate and low-cost credit flow to the productive sector.

Bangladesh Bank Divisional Office Executive Director Md. Maqbul Hossain presided over the meeting. The guests of honor were Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology Vice Chancellor Dr. Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiyan and Bangladesh Bank Head Office Executive Director Md. Khasru Parvez.

Bangladesh Bank, Chattogram Office Administration Department Director Mohammad Ashiqur Rahman delivered the welcome address.
