Google has launched a new generation of high-performance Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) aimed at accelerating artificial intelligence training and improving the operation of digital AI agents. The announcement was made during the company’s annual cloud computing conference held in Las Vegas.
The tech giant’s new chips are designed to handle increasingly complex AI workloads, particularly large language model training and inference tasks used in automated AI systems. Google said the latest TPU architecture represents a shift toward more efficient and scalable AI infrastructure.
According to company statements, the new TPU line introduces a dual-chip approach and is part of the eighth generation of Google’s custom AI processors. One version is optimized for training large AI models, while the other is focused on inference, enabling faster decision-making for AI-driven applications.
Google Cloud leadership highlighted that the chips were developed in collaboration with semiconductor partner Broadcom and are expected to become available later this year. The company emphasized that modern AI systems require more advanced infrastructure to support increasingly autonomous digital agents capable of performing complex computing tasks.
The development comes amid intensified competition in the AI hardware sector, with major technology companies investing heavily in custom chip design to reduce dependence on external suppliers and strengthen control over AI computing performance.
