How to reduce electricity consumption by using a geyser
The Chronify
Geysers are used most frequently in households during winter. Having a geyser makes it easier to heat water for bathing or cooking. However, using a geyser can also cause various issues, and in many cases, electricity bills increase.
By following some important rules when using an electric geyser, electricity consumption can be easily reduced. Let’s look at the methods:
1. Avoid keeping the geyser on all the time
Keeping the geyser on for long periods increases electricity bills. It is important to turn it on only when needed and switch it off after a short time, as water heats up quickly. Although modern geysers come with auto-cut features that turn off once the water is heated, older geysers may not have this feature.
2. Use geyser water carefully
We often turn on the geyser every time we bathe or wash dishes. However, first check whether hot water is actually coming out of the tap. If the geyser has already been used recently, some hot water may remain, which can help avoid turning it on again unnecessarily. Geyser water can stay hot for several hours, saving electricity.
3. Set the thermostat on the geyser
If electricity bills rise due to geyser use, set the thermostat to 50–60°C. This ensures the geyser heats enough water while reducing power consumption, helping to lower the electricity bill.
4. Replace an old geyser
If your geyser is very old, it should be replaced because it consumes a lot of electricity and lacks modern features. A 5-star rated geyser with an auto-cut feature can be purchased, which helps reduce electricity costs.
