Meta is launching a new initiative aimed at revolutionizing global infrastructure, with plans to invest tens of gigawatts of energy this decade, expanding to hundreds of gigawatts in the future.

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has unveiled a new initiative called Meta Compute, signaling a strategic move toward building a robust infrastructure for the future. The company plans to invest heavily in this initiative, targeting the construction of tens of gigawatts of energy in the next decade, and scaling up to hundreds of gigawatts or more in the long term.

This ambitious project will be led by Santosh Janardhan and Daniel Gross. Santosh, who has been with Meta for a long time, will continue to oversee the technical architecture, software stack, silicon program, developer productivity, and the company's global datacenter fleet and network operations. Meanwhile, Daniel Gross will lead a newly formed team focused on long-term capacity strategy, supplier partnerships, industry analysis, planning, and business modeling.

The initiative will also see Meta working closely with Dina Powell McCormick, who recently joined as President and Vice Chairman. She will focus on building strategic partnerships with governments and sovereigns, playing a critical role in the financing, deployment, and expansion of Meta’s infrastructure worldwide.

Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, expressed his excitement about collaborating with Daniel, Santosh, and Dina, emphasizing the importance of scaling Meta Compute to deliver personal superintelligence to billions of people around the world. The project is set to become a cornerstone of Meta's long-term strategy, positioning the company at the forefront of global infrastructure and technology development.
