288 BNP, 224 Jamaat Candidates Enter February 12 Election Race

BNP has fielded the highest number of candidates for the upcoming national election, followed by Jamaat-e-Islami. In total, nearly 2,000 candidates are contesting across 298 constituencies, according to Election Commission data.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has emerged as the largest contender in the February 12 parliamentary election, fielding 288 candidates nationwide, while Jamaat-e-Islami is contesting with 224 candidates, according to the latest statistics released by the Election Commission.

Overall, 1,972 candidates are in the race for seats in 298 constituencies across the country. In addition, nine candidates have been declared valid in the Pabna-1 and Pabna-2 constituencies, bringing the total scope of participation close to the full parliamentary slate.

Of the total contenders, 1,732 candidates represent 51 registered political parties, while 249 candidates are running as independents, reflecting a competitive and diverse electoral landscape.

The Election Commission released the updated statistics on Wednesday night, following the completion of nomination scrutiny and appeal hearings. The data highlights significant participation from both major parties and smaller political groups ahead of what is expected to be a closely watched national election.

The February 12 polls will determine the composition of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad, with election authorities and law enforcement agencies preparing for heightened political activity in the coming weeks.
