BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has announced plans to recruit 100,000 trained healthcare workers nationwide if the party comes to power. The initiative aims to expand grassroots health services, with a strong focus on rural areas and women-led community care.

BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman on Sunday said his party would recruit 100,000 healthcare workers across Bangladesh if it forms the next government.

He made the announcement while addressing a youth policy dialogue titled “The Plan: Youth Policy Talk with Tarique Rahman - Chattogram Division”, held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Chattogram from 10:00am.

Around 450 students from nearly 50 colleges and universities in Chattogram and nearby districts participated in the dialogue, which was organised to engage young people on governance, policy priorities and national development challenges.

Responding to a student’s question, Tarique said the recruited health workers would receive basic training and be assigned to specific villages or neighbourhoods. “They will go door to door to raise awareness about diseases, promote hygiene and guide people on healthy living,” he said.

He added that one or two healthcare workers would be appointed per village, with recruitment done locally to ensure stronger community engagement. Tarique also said that 80 to 85 percent of the recruits would be women, who would play a key role in delivering health services at the household level.

The programme, he said, is designed to gradually expand healthcare access in rural areas and strengthen preventive health services nationwide.

Later on Sunday, Tarique Rahman is scheduled to attend a BNP rally as chief guest at the Polo Ground in Chattogram, where party leaders and supporters have already begun gathering to welcome him.
