Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman says the country rejects fascism and electoral manipulation. He accused past governments of enabling corruption, money laundering and injustice.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman on Thursday said the country no longer wants dictatorship or vote rigging, warning that the return of fascism would bring consequences similar to the past.
He made the remarks while officially launching his election campaign at a rally organized by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami for the Dhaka-15 constituency. Shafiqur Rahman has submitted his nomination papers from the constituency for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.
“Jamaat does not want to see any vote riggers anymore,” he said, adding that the people of Bangladesh have rejected authoritarian rule.
Criticizing the administration, he said: “If there were justice in the country, corruption and money laundering would not have occurred. During the Awami League’s rule, mirror houses were built, and even military officers were not spared.”
Referring to the referendum, he said the public is determined to ensure a victory for the “Yes” vote. During the program, he formally handed over the combined election symbol stand to candidates nominated by the 10-party alliance in different Dhaka constituencies.
Highlighting local problems in Dhaka-15, Shafiqur Rahman said the area lacks a quality government hospital and that its canals have turned into dumping grounds. “If elected, I will make educational institutions world-class and solve infrastructure problems,” he said.
He also pledged that Jamaat would not accept donations, would create employment opportunities, and would work to ensure a ‘Yes’ victory in the referendum.
Special guests at the rally included Ducsu Vice President Sadiq Qayem and Dhaka-16 candidate and educationist Abdul Baten, along with local Jamaat leaders from Kafrul Thana.
