Actor Siddique Remanded for Seven Days in Attempted Murder Case

A Dhaka court has ordered actor Siddiqur Rahman Siddique to be placed on a seven-day police remand in connection with an attempted murder case filed at Gulshan Police Station. The case relates to the alleged shooting of Jabbar Ali Hawlader during the mass uprising that occurred between July and August last year.

The order was issued on Wednesday by Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanaullah, following a police request for a 10-day remand.

Siddique was detained by a group of young men around noon on Tuesday while walking along Bailey Road. After reportedly confronting and physically restraining him, they handed him over to law enforcement.

Case documents indicate that police opened fire on protestors in front of Shahjadpur’s Confidence Tower on July 19, during which Jabbar sustained gunshot injuries. He later filed a case with Gulshan Police Station on December 11, naming 109 individuals as accused, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
